Cleaning Instructions

Keep your upholstery looking new and bright with regular cleaning. Disinfecting the surfaces of your recliner between patients is critical, but disinfecting is not a replacement for cleaning. Removing oily residues from hair products, body lotions and body oils can lengthen the life of your vinyl. Removing dirt and scuffs from daily use keeps your product and your facility looking great!

CAUTION: Other cleaning methods are used at the facility’s own risk.
For cleaning, a soft white cloth is recommended: avoid use of paper towels.

General Cleaning: Your Champion chairs are constructed of vinyl with BEAUTYGUARD®, which resists most stains. Staining materials can penetrate over time so it is important to remove the spill as soon as possible after it occurs. Not only is the clean up easier, it reduces the possibility that it will penetrate the protective finish and become permanently set in the fabric. So for the best results, give spills immediate attention.

CAUTION: Some fabric dyes have the ability to create a permanent stain. To reduce the likelihood of a problem from this or any stain, clean as soon as noticed.

VINYL MANUFACTURER’S CLEANING RECOMMENDATIONS:

For most soiling, use a 1:10 solution of household liquid dish soap with warm water applied with a soft damp cloth. This removes most soiling. If necessary, a solution of liquid cleanser and water applied with a soft bristle brush. Wipe away the residue with a water dampened cloth.

WARNING: When solvent type cleaners are being used, care should be exercised. KEEP AWAY from fire or flame and use in a well ventilated area.

For heavier soiling, dampen a soft white cloth with lighter fluid (Naphtha) and rub gently. Rinse with a water dampened cloth.

For stains not removed by the above methods: dampen a soft white cloth with a 1:10 solution of household bleach (sodium hypochlorite) mixed with water. Rub gently. Rinse with a water dampened cloth to remove the bleach concentration. If necessary, allow this solution of bleach to water to puddle on the affected area or apply a soaked cloth for approximately 30 minutes. Rinse with a water dampened cloth to remove any remaining bleach.

To disinfect a solution of up to 10% bleach and water may be used. Information from the fabric manufacturer is meant to establish an upper limit beyond which damage might occur.

The protective finish prevents most staining materials: ink, magic marker and paint from immediately penetrating the protective coating; so it is important to remove the spill as soon as possible after the spill to prevent its penetration into vinyl and becoming a permanent stain.

CAUTION: Some fabric dyes have the ability to create a permanent stain. To reduce the likelihood of a problem from this or any stain, clean as soon as noticed.

VINYL MANUFACTURER’S CLEANING RECOMMENDATIONS:

Cleaners such as Fantastik®, Formula 409® all purpose cleaner and other similar household cleaners and bleaches for stains such as food, shoe polish, betadine, and lipstick. Use with water and a cloth or soft brush. Rinse with clear water and dry with a clean cloth.

CAUTION: Limit use of strong active solvent to six rubs. Unlimited use may remove the PREFIXX® from the vinyl surface.

A solvent-type cleaner to be used with a soft cloth or damp sponge; alcohol, for stains such as magic marker, spray paint, & grease. Use full strength and dry with a cloth. Rinse with clear water and dry with a clean cloth.

Strong active solvent cleaners such as nail polish remover (acetone/water) applied with a soft cloth or damp sponge for such stains as paint, ballpoint pen, and toner. Use with a soft cloth. Rinse with clear water.

To disinfect a solution of up to 10% bleach and water may be used. Information from the fabric manufacturer is meant to establish an upper limit beyond which damage might occur.

For cleaning, a soft white cloth is recommended: avoid use of paper towels.

General Cleaning: General Cleaning: Your Champion chairs are constructed of vinyl with protective finish, MORGUARD™. This finish resists staining materials. Staining materials can penetrate over time, so it is important to remove the spill as soon as possible after it occurs. Not only is the clean up easier, the possibility that the spill will penetrate the protective finish and become permanently set in the fabric is reduced.

Follow these steps in order. If the stain is removed; stop the cleaning process at that point, after rinsing with clean water and drying the fabric.

  • Remove excess spill with a damp cloth. Clean with a mild soap solution. Always rinse with clear water and dry with a clean cloth. Soap solution may be applied with a cloth or a soft bristle brush.
  • For more stubborn stains, use a mild detergent such as Fantastik®, Formula 409®, or Mr. Clean® according to the manufacturer’s directions. Use a soft cloth or a soft bristle brush to apply the detergent, always rinse with clear water and dry with a clean cloth.WARNING: When solvent type cleaners are being used, care should be exercised. KEEP AWAY from fire or flame and use in a well ventilated area.
  • If the stain persists, use full strength rubbing alcohol or mineral spirits cautiously. (This means trying the cleaner in a hidden area first). Work in a small area; apply the cleaner in a circular motion a few times, rinse with clear water and dry with a clean cloth. Examine the fabric for damage before using on the stain.Caution: Indiscriminate use of strong solvents can damage or discolor vinyl.
  • Use a full strength application of lighter fluid (naphtha). Use a soft cotton cloth saturated with cleaning material. Rub the stain in circles 10 times, pat dry with a soft cloth and check results. Rinse thoroughly with clean water and pat the surface dry with a clean cloth.
  • Use 1:1 mix of isopropyl alcohol and water. If stain persists, use straight alcohol. Rinse with clean water and pat surface dry with a clean cloth. If stains remain, use a 1:1 mix of acetone (nail polish remover) and water. Rinse clean and pat the surface dry with a clean cloth.

To disinfect a solution of up to 10% bleach and water solutions may be used. Information from the fabric manufacturer is meant to establish an upper limit beyond which damage might occur.

CAUTION: Powdered adhesives, abrasive cleaners, steel wool and industrial strengthcleaners are not recommended for MorCare vinyl. Any lacquer solvent will cause immediate damage to the vinyl. Wax should never be used, as it will cause embrittlement and cracking. Dilute chlorine beach: never use full strength on vinyl. Always rinse with clear water after using cleaning solutions.

Certain stains* may become permanent unless removed immediately. *Ball point ink – Use rubbing alcohol full strength on a soft cloth immediately to remove much of the stain.

WARNING: NEVER mix ammonia, or a cleaner with ammonia, with bleach as dangerous compounds may result.

WARNING: When solvent type cleaners are being used, care should be exercised. KEEP AWAY from fire or flame and use in a well ventilated area.

For these specific items the manufacture recommends:
*Blood – Use a clean cloth soaked in cold water to rub out spots. Use household ammonia, rinsing with clean wet cloth for persistent spots. Do not use hot water or soap suds this will set the stain.

*Shoe polish – Shoe polish will stain permanently. Use a cloth saturated with mineral spirits or kerosene rubbing lightly to remove residue. Rinse thoroughly with clean water. Do not smear stain beyond original source.

*Chewing gum – Rub with an ice cube then scrape off as much as possible with a dull knife. Use a cloth saturated with mineral spirits rubbing lightly to remove residue. Rinse thoroughly with clean water.

*Grease/Oil – Use a cloth saturated with mineral spirits rubbing lightly to remove residue. Do not smear stain beyond original source. Work from the outer edge toward the center of the stain. Rinse thoroughly with clean water.

*Lipstick – Use a cloth saturated with mineral spirits rubbing lightly to remove residue. Do not smear stain beyond original source. Work from the outer edge toward the center of the stain. Rinse thoroughly with clean water.

*Latex Paint – wipe off fresh paint, hot soapy water will usually remove dried latex paint.

*Vomit – Remove any residue then use a sponge or cloth saturated with soapy water with a dilute bleach solution. Rinse thoroughly with clean water.

*Urine – Remove any residue, then use soapy water with a small amount of household ammonia.
Rinse thoroughly with clean water.

CAUTION: Other cleaning methods are used at the facility’s own risk.

For cleaning, a soft white cloth is recommended: avoid use of paper towels.

General Cleaning: Your Champion chairs are constructed of fabric with a superior finish. This finish resists staining materials.

FABRIC MANUFACTURER’S CLEANING RECOMMENDATIONS:

Follow these steps in order. If the stain is removed; stop the cleaning process at that point, after rinsing with clean water and drying the fabric.

  • Remove excess spill with a damp cloth. Clean ordinary dirt, dust smudges and ordinary spills with a damp cloth.
  • For water soluble stains such as coffee, mustard, juice, etc. remove with soap and water solutions, always rinse with clear water and dry with a clean cloth. Soap solutions may be applied with a cloth or a soft bristle brush. In general, ball point pen ink stains are difficult to remove. The sooner the ink is cleaned the better the chance for success. Ink compositions vary and not all ink stains can be removed.
  • For more stubborn stains, such as ink, grease, shoe polish. Wet a portion of a soft white cloth with a blend of 50% rubbing alcohol and 50% Wisk® detergent. Another option is rubbing alcohol and baking soda.
  • Apply the cleaning solutions to the ink stain and blot up the stain. Do not rub. Blot up all of the cleaning solutions and repeat step 2 several times either blotting the stain or gently rubbing in a circular motion. Do not rub vigorously.
  • Apply a small amount of the cleaning solution with a soft bristle toothbrush and gently brush in a circular motion. As the ink loosens up blot up the stain with a dry cloth. Repeat this step three times, using small amounts of cleaning solutions each time.
  • Extract the cleaning solution with a damp cloth several times to remove the cleaning solutions (and the blue Wisk® color).
  • Allow to dry. Check for residual soap and repeat step 4 if necessary.

To disinfect a solution of up to 20% bleach and water may be used. Information from the fabric manufacturer is meant to establish an upper limit beyond which damage might occur.

CAUTION: Other cleaning methods are used at the facility’s own risk.

For easy cleaning of recent soiling, promptly wash with a mild soap solution. For a previously soiled area that has not yet penetrated the vinyl surface, scrub with a soft brush using a mild, non-abrasive cleaner.

Cleaning frequency depends on use. Please clean and maintain your furniture regularly.

Clean all spills as soon as possible and use the following cleaning procedures in order for best results.

  • Remove excess spill with a damp cloth. Clean ordinary dirt, dust smudges and ordinary spills with a damp cloth.
  • Use straight application of concentrated cleaners such as Formula 409® or Fantastik®. Rinse with clear water. Wipe with clean cloth.
  • For more difficult stains, use a 6% mixture of bleach with water. Rinse with clear water and dry. Never use bleach in full strength to clean vinyl.

Notes: Please be sure to use a soft brush or cloth saturated with cleaning material. Always test cleaning methods on an inconspicuous area of furniture. If stain persists, stain has probably set. Although this vinyl is resistant to most common stains, some fabric dyes and ballpoint inks can create a permanent stain.

To disinfect a solution of up to 20% bleach and water may be used except on Raffia where a 6% solution may be used. After using bleach solution be sure to rinse area with a soft cloth moistened with clear water and let dry. Bleach solutions not completely removed can fade the material. Never use bleach in full strength to clean these materials. Information in regard to the strength of bleach solution from the vinyl manufacturer is meant to establish an upper limit beyond which damage might occur.

Regular Maintenance

  • Clean monthly with a clean, soft, colorfast, damp, soapy cloth or sponge and rinse with clean water

Stain Treatment and Spot Cleaning

A professional cleaning service is recommended.

Treat stains quickly:

  • It will become increasingly difficult to remove the longer a stain is allowed to set
  • Pretest any cleaning method or agent in a small hidden inconspicuous area
  • Several less concentrated applications are less damaging than one concentrated application

Remove fluids immediately by blotting with a clean, colorfast, absorbent cloth Flush stain with water and dry with clean cloth.

Rinse all cleaning agents thoroughly with water and wipe with a soft cloth

  • Residue left by cleaning agents will degrade and shorten the life and/or affect the product’s appearance if not removed.

Remove solid or semi-solid substances

  • Using a flat object, remove as much of the stain as possible
  • After removal, vacuum thoroughly using the proper attachments before cleaning with an agent

Abrasive household cleansers and steel wool should be avoided.

Bleach Cleanable

To disinfect spray a 4:1 ratio water/bleach mixture on the fabric and allow to linger for the time specified by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Cleaning Code (W-S) For water-based stains use water-based cleaners. For oil-based stains use solvent-based cleaners. We recommend using a professional cleaning service.

Bleach solutions of up to 10% may be used for more difficult stains.

Maintenance / General Recommendations

Clean and maintain your furniture regularly. Cleaning frequency depends on use. We recommend using a professional furniture cleaning service.

Always test cleaning solutions and methods in an inconspicuous area of the furniture before proceeding. Treat spills and stains promptly. The longer the stain remains, the more difficult it will be to remove. Clean spots or stains from the edge of the stain working toward the center.

For regular cleaning and maintenance, remove excess soil with a damp, non-abrasive cloth. Use a solution of mild liquid soap and water. Rinse with clean water and dry.

Stain Treatment / Disinfection

For stubborn stains or heavy soiling use a one to one (1:1) solution of concentrated cleaners such as Formula 409® or Fantastik® and water. Wipe with clean, nonabrasive cloth, rinse with water and dry.

For more difficult stains or to disinfect, use a mixture of no more than 10% bleach and 90% water. Always rinse with clean water and dry. Never use full strength bleach to clean this material or any other coated fabric.

Do not use alcohol based cleaning agents to clean this product.

We do not recommend the use of hard surface cleaners; however, the following cleaners / disinfectants have been tested for use on this material, diluted per manufacturer’s instructions:

If these cleaners/disinfectants are used, the material must be rinsed with clean water and dried with a clean cloth following application. Failure to rinse thoroughly with clean water and to pat dry may lead to cleaner build up and cause surface deterioration (cracking, blisters, peeling, discoloration, etc.).

Do not use cleaners marked “for hard non-porous surfaces only” unless indicated above. Such use may cause surface deterioration (cracking, blisters, peeling, discoloration, etc.).

Caution:

  • Indiscriminate use of strong cleaning chemicals can severely damage or discolor this material.
  • Never apply full strength bleach to this material.
  • Avoid cleaners containing abrasives.
  • Do not use heat to clean this material. Hot water, hot water extraction, or steam cleaning is not recommended.
  • Do not saturate material or let cleaning agents pool in seams.
  • Several light applications of a cleaning agent are less harmful than a single concentrated application.
  • Certain apparel dyes, including indigo dyes commonly used in denim jeans, may migrate on to the surface of the material and become visible on lighter colors. This phenomenon is increased by humidity and temperature and may be irreversible.
  • Certain inks, including ball point ink can create permanent stains.
  • If stain persists despite suggested cleaning methods, stain has probably set and may be permanent.
  • Some solvents are highly flammable. Exercise proper care when cleaning with solvents and solvent cleaners. Read and follow manufacturer’s directions on labels.
